- Ambiance – You can download a whole plethora of sounds right in the app. Cool UI. I only have one sound (waves) which I use as a sound machine to sleep to. Able to set a timer and everything so it goes off after an hour or so. (Free/)
- Backgrounds – I just like getting new, cool backgrounds and this is the easiest way I have found.
- Cooliris – an awesome way to view photos in google search (I highly recommend the firefox add-on as well)
- iheartradio – obviously brings radio stations to your iphone
- iPod
- iTunes
- i.TV – don’t use this as much as I thought I would, but has some cool features integrating TV, Movie times/theatres, and Netflix all in one app. You can also watch, share, and rate movies and TV show trailers right in the app which is pretty cool.
- midomi – basically the same thing as Shazam but with a cool ‘Sing’ option to sing a song into the phone. Can add friends and save recordings, listen to other people’s ‘singing’ recordings, share songs, etc.
- Ocarina – maybe the most amazing app ever made, completely useless, but by blowing into your phone, you can actually play real music, it’s incredible (li)
- Pandora – internet radio that plays/recommends music based on our song choices
- Photos
- Remote – controls your iTunes playlist on your desktop from your phone
- Rowmote – controls not only iTunes, but also Front Row, Boxee, iPhoto, Keynote, Powerpoint, Quicktime, DVD Player, etc! The UI is not very elegant but the functionality is great.
- Shazam – despite all of midomi’s extra features, I find myself using this app to get song info because it is so simple/quick/easy to use.
- Simplify Media – another one of those ‘no way!’ apps. Access your home music library from anywhere in the world. Essentially you don’t have to put any songs on your phone because you can listen to them all through this app which connects to your computer’s (which must be on) library. You can also add up to 30 friends so you can listen to all their music any time you want as well (as long as their computer is on).
- YouTube

- Air Sharing – turns your phone into a local server allowing you to add and remove files from it. This app has basically replaced the thumb drive.
- Evernote – don’t use this much, but it actually is a great app. Save text, photo, or voice notes. You can categorize them, email them, and sync with a great desktop app as well.
- iFitness – decent workout app for the price. Allows you to view exercises, save workouts and logs, and email them to yourself. ()
- Mint – a great app for one of the greatest financial tools ever. Definitely sign up for mint and definitely get this app to manage your finances, you’ll love it. ()
- MobileFiles – very similar to Air Sharing but makes use of your idisk space if you are a mobileme member
- MySpace
- PhoneFlix – connects to your Netflix account. Simple UI that lets you search for movies, add them to your queue, etc.
- reQall – One of the best ‘reminder’ tools I’ve used. I love it cause it integrates with a firefox add-on, and an aim name that allows you to, for example, quickly and simply add an item to a list buy sending an IM to reqall that says ‘buy milk’. There are similar commands for adding To Do’s, etc. There is also voice recording.
- SugarSync – Sugarsync allows you to choose folders on multiple computers and keep their contents in sync, while also backing up those files on the internet. This app gives you access to all those files on your phone.
- TimeLogger – don’t really use this, but you can set up projects/clients and set a timer to record how long you work on a project (for billing purposes)
- Trailguru – don’t use this much but is cool in theory. Records things like distance, time, knows when you stopped for rest, altitude, etc.
- Twitterific – simple tool for viewing and posting tweets
- VNC – view and control your computer screen at home
- Wallet – I use this in conjunction with a great desktop app to store all sorts of information: passwords, account login info, product serial numbers, etc etc. It is really great. Requires a password to open the app so everything is secure! ()
- WordPress – add posts to your blog right from your phone
Page 4 (General information tools)
- AroundMe – finds all sorts of things around you (restaurants, bars, gas stations, hotels, etc)
- AllRecipes – select a ‘dish type’, a ‘your ingredients’ and ‘ready in’ and it will provide you with a list of possible dishes to make
- BigOven – list of 150,000+ recipes
- eBay
- Google Earth
- myLite (not sure why this is here, nowhere else to go I guess) – turns your phone into a flashlight. There are other options like strobe light, different colors, etc, but I mainly just use the plain white screen as a light in the dark.

- MMS – decent app to send MMS (although rumor has it that this will be built into the 3.0 upgrade so a good MMS app may not be necessary)
